PARTNERSHIP WITH HOPE VILLAGE ORGANIZATION (HVO)
Songea's Kids has partnered with Hope Village Organization (HVO), a registered Tanzanian NGO, and coordinates closely with local Tanzanian government officials, social welfare officers and village leaders to build hope and transform lives of orphans and vulnerable children in the Ruvuma Region.
Since 2010 USA leading architects and engineers have provided pro bono expertise, working alongside Tanzania colleagues to design and construct an entire village complex based on needs reported by regional and local government agencies, Lutukira village leaders, and our NGO partner. The Lutukira village donated and transferred 30 acres of land to HVO and promised an additional 60 acres in the future. The Tanzania government paved a road to and through the site and provided electricity to the village. Several Rotary Clubs and individuals provide funding for water infrastructure and building construction at Hope Village. Three wells have been drilled, including two at Hope Village and one in Lutukira. Construction of the Rotary Health Care Center and Masonry Vocational Classroom is completed, and both are providing valuable services to the community. The first residential orphan residence is expected to open in Fall 2023, providing a place to call home for 24 children. Future plans include a pre-primary school, additional vocational training classrooms, and 12 additional homes for the most vulnerable orphans in the region. Appropriate new technology is being introduced and local villagers are being trained and utilized in the construction.
